I thought I would do an update on the project 333 blog I wrote at the beginning of this journey.
Here is the update.. I FAILED I lasted a few weeks if that.
I hated it, I felt like I was super bored with everything I had in my closet and needed more variety. I know some people can do it and it works well for them, for me however it just wasn't working.
I donated a tonne of clothes that I never reached for and I don't miss them and now I am very conscious of what I do buy and if I'm going to be wasting my money on it.
I do have a lot less clothes now and I have applied minimalism to my wardrobe and other areas of my house but I just don't want to be that drastic with what I allow in my life. I now do a sort of capsule wardrobe which helps with my wardrobe clutter, but I just can't fully commit to only having 33 items of clothes for 3 months.
I did have fun starting this project and I can definitely see it working for people who are in a rush and don't need lots of choices when it comes to getting dressed.
However I will just stick to being mindful of what I have in my closet and will donate the things that no longer bring me joy!
Nearly forgot mention I did go through a Marie kondo stage and I applied that to a lot of areas in my life and it worked really well and now I feel like I value everything I do have a lot more! I feel like this method is much more achievable long term and I continue to use this method 2 months on, although I am not super obsessed with it, it is just something I try to apply to my life as much as possible and when I'm out shopping I ask myself "is this item going to bring me joy?", "do I really want it?" and then I will go home think about that purchase and if I still really want it I will go back the next day and get it! Most of the time I just forget about the item.
Some things this method includes is:
- Keep only the things that spark joy.
- Tidy all at once.
- Treat your items as living things.
- Visualize your destination.
- Identify why you want to live the way you envision.
- Tidy by category, not location.
- Tidy in the right order.
- Discard before you place things back.
By applying this method to my life it actually has made a difference and I will continue to use this method until I find something new!
